songs from the weekend of Sept. 4/5, 2010

  1. You’ll Come written by Brooke Fraser
  2. Mighty to Save written by Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan – you can hear our version of this song on the Apex LIVE cd.
  3. Death in His Grave written by John Mark McMillan – many people have asked about the lyrics of this song so I’ve posted them below.
  4. You Say written by our own Phil Wing
  5. Come Ye Sinners written by Joseph Hart and modernized by Robbie Seay – we created our own musical arrangement of this one that was led by a delayed electric guitar playing sparse clean sounds.  The band was slowly building throughout the entire song and then the last chorus was where it all just opened up.
Death In His Grave
by John Mark McMillan

Verse 1
Though the earth cried out for blood, satisfied her hunger was
Billows calmed on raging seas, for the souls of men she craved
Sun and moon from balcony turned their heads in disbelief
Precious Love would taste the sting, disfigured and disdained

Chorus
On Friday a thief, on Sunday a King
Laid down in grief but woke with the keys
Of hell on that day the first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ laid death in His grave
Verse 2
So three days in darkness slept, the Morning Son of righteousness
But rose to shame the throws of death and overturn his rule
Now daughters and the sons of men would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent when the day rolled a new

Bridge
He has cheated hell and seated us above the fall
In desperate places He paid our wages
One time once and for all

  1. Take it All written by Crocker, Ligertwood, & Sampson
  2. When a Heart Skips a Beat written by Chad Osborne & Phil Wing – you can hear this one on the Apex Band’s “LIVE” cd.
  3. Everlasting God written by Glenn Packiam – this is a new song from New Life Church, not to be confused with the popular one by Lincoln Brewster or Chris Tomlin.  The backbone of this song stayed similar to the New Life version, but all the orchestra parts were replaced with ambient electric guitar layers.
  4. Kingdom and a King written by Robbie Seay
  5. Be Thou My Vision – The writer is unknown although it can be traced to ancient Ireland.  Translated & Versified by Byrne & Hull.  Our version of this song started out with the arrangement by Jars of Clay…then as we practiced, it kinda turned into something different and unique. Whatever it was, it was enjoyable to play.

songs from the weekend of August 7/8, 2010

  1. You’ll Come written by Brooke Fraser
  2. Marvelous Light written by Charlie Hall
  3. None but Jesus written by Brooke Fraser – We came up with our own arrangement of this one.  It was more electric guitar driven – still slow, but more “up” feeling from the drums. Think Sigur Ros meets Hillsong.  :)
  4. There is No One written by Jason Morant – you can hear this one on the Apex Band’s “Connections” cd.
  5. Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus written by Helen Lemmel – we took the chorus of this song, slowed it down, put it in 4/4 instead of 3/4, and added it to the end of There Is No One.
  6. To Know Your Name written by Matt Crocker

songs from the weekend of July 31 & August 1, 2010
