Haiti Earthquake: Apex Response

Haiti Earthquake: Apex Response

On the evening of January 12 a massive earthquake struck the island nation of Haiti near several major population centers. The immediate results were devastating, with projections of many thousands killed or wounded by the crumbling infrastructure. Given the nature of disasters of this magnitude in nations of such poverty, the prospects for the coming weeks and months are grim. We, as the Body of Christ, have a duty to respond.
Apex leadership is currently developing an appropriate and timely response to this catastrophe. Our spirits must be prepared to react quickly, but with diligence and discernment. Please consider the following as you determine how the Spirit is leading you to respond.
1. Prayer

Earthquake in Haiti

If you haven’t seen the news, Haiti was hit incredibly hard by a +7 magnitude earthquake last evening near Port au Prince.

Region 2 Leads “Feed the Children of Haiti – Phase One”

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40

Region 2 is demonstrating how the Body can respond to crises around the globe. Here’s an update from Ben Mack:

Efforts of currently underway by one of our Region 2 house churches to raise funds for a project to send pre-packaged meals to the impoverished nation of Haiti. We have had first hand experience working with Lifeline Christian Mission and Kids Against Hunger in Haiti on a recent medical mission trip by members of our house church and are thrilled to get Apex involved in this ministry.

Phase One will consist of a corporate fund raising drive to raise a portion of the funds needed to purchase the actual food contents. Phase Two will be the actual bagging of the meals and shipping them to Haiti by individuals getting financially sponsored to participate by working a shift on “Bagging Day” sometime in May or early June. We are hoping to raise a minimum of $9000, with a dream goal of $36,000 which would fill and ship an entire semi container of over 250,000 meals. With each meal only costing less than 14 cents any amount you can give will make a difference in the lives of these Haitian children. The food we send them provides 75% of their daily nutrient needs in one meal and the food they receive comes with the message and love of Jesus Christ. You can contribute financially at this time by sending a check to Apex or dropping one in the offering with “Region 2 – Haiti” in the memo line.

We are also planning on hosting a “Where in the World? – Haiti!” night at Apex on April 17th, please be on the lookout for details in the near future. You can also join our listserve for people interested in helping for the Phase 2 bagging day by emailing Ben Mack (mack.13@wright.edu). We would also be more than glad to make a presentation to your house church about how they can get involved with this project, again email mack.13@wright.edu for that as well or with any other questions or requests.
